TraySafe client survey
TraySafe supports TCP/IP connection through network to provide password sharing for the small offices.
Based on client/server model TraySafe provides TraySafe password server and TraySafe password clients.
Note: Communication is supported by Business version of TraySafe. In the Personal version communication is not allowed.
Trial versions also support client server communication.
To setup server client communication you need first to start password server.
For that you need to run TraySafe Business version and choose Main menu\Server\Start server.
This command starts TCP/IP server on the local machine. To connect through network you need to define
allowed port - ask an administrator about that and then setup it at server option page.
After start of server it is enabled to get requests from clients for passwords.
To select server password file you need to open the password file, switch to server panels view (it can be switched
by Main menu\Server\Show the server panel) and activate file from popup menu Set as server file item.
If this item is not available, than no information about users can be found in this file. You need to add users' information
by executing command from popup menu Add user info to the file.
After that you will see users from this activated password file in the left tree.
You can select a user and set the access right to password file accounts in the appropriate checkboxes in the accounts tree. Now only 2 access rights are supported:
- None (unchecked)
- Read (checked)
Using mouse you can quickly define necessary passwords for each user.
Comments for the professionals: Before connection a client uses RSA encryption for complete security - a client generates random
security and opened key and sends opened key to server with user name and hashed password string
(Passwords in opened state CANNOT be transmitted!). After successful authentification server returns ONLY passwords for provided username
encrypted with provided opened key. Even with the help of sniffer software it will be impossible to decrypt intercepted message from server -
only client knows secure password (it is not sent to server!)
Client decrypts server's answer and displays retrieved passwords by creating a new password file with name: [server:port]
